Known as Canada's Motor City, Oshawa has turned some heads and won the gold award at the 2007 International Awards for Most Liveable Communities. It also placed third overall in the population category of 75,001-200,000. What makes this even more impressive is it was up against other Canadian cities and communities in England, Hungary, Japan, Spain and the United States.
Oshawa placed behind Ipswich, Australia and Canuck, Richmond, B.C.
Chosen on the basis of its quality of life and the environment, most would think these are the last two things when considering the city that motovates Canada.
Mayor John Gray responded that to win such a prestigous award only confirms what the City Of Oshawa has always had to offer.
Mayor Gray will be making a 40 minute presentation in England and accepting the award on behalf of the city.
Some say it is unfortunate that most ignore the good parts of Oshawa. They also argue that with the reasonable price of Oshawa homes and the easy commute to Toronto, the city should be tops on everyones list when considering a move.
