The other day I was talking with a real estate agent. I asked how business was. They responded that it was dead. Nothing was happening because their phone was not ringing.
I then asked how many listings they had. Five right now and working on getting another one in the next couple of days. But nothing is happening right now on any of them. Very few showings and no phone calls.
I decided to take it to another level. I asked what they were doing to market and advertise their listings. I'm glad I was sitting down because I was not prepared for what I heard. They stated ‘why should I spend money on advertising when no one is calling. It is dead out there'.
Later I was thinking, here is a professional that is an expert in marketing real estate. Don't they know that the first rule of advertising is to run ads when the phone is not ringing? It certainly is a good place to start to get some calls.
I also look at the free classified websites that are available to post ads. Why they are not packed full of realtors promoting their listings is a mystery to me. Large sites like Craigslist and Kijiji offer a lot of traffic that can no doubt get their phone ringing.
